Hans Benner

Hans Benner (* 1949 in Herbornseelbach ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and has been mayor of the city of Herborn since 2001 . In mid-September 2019, he handed over his office to his successor Katja Gronau (independent).

Life

Benner has been active in local politics since 1972 . Among other things, he was a city ​​councilor and held the office of city councilor. In 2001 he ran for the office of mayor of Herborn. After no candidate was able to achieve a majority in the election on March 18, he was elected in a runoff election on April 1 with 56.9% of the valid votes. On March 25, 2007 and March 24, 2013, he was re-elected with 73.0% and 51.3% of the valid votes, respectively.

2013 he became an honorary citizen of Iława , the Polish twin town of Herborn. Benner is a founding member and chairman of the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein Herborn-Seelbach eV and member of the board of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutsche Fachwerkstädte eV He is married and has two children.
