Hans Brandt (District Administrator)

Hans Brandt (born April 8, 1884 in Düsseldorf , † April 13, 1961 in Krefeld ) was a German municipal official and police chief .

Life

After attending the Krefeld grammar school, Hans Brandt attended the preparatory school for teacher training and the teacher training institute, where he passed the discharge test in 1906. As a one-year volunteer , he served with the 70th Infantry Regiment in Saarbrücken. On April 1, 1907, Brandt became a teacher in Koxhof and after three years came to the Catholic elementary school in Düsseldorf-Gerresheim , where he stayed for a year. After working as a teacher in Süchteln, he took part in the First World War from August 2, 1914 to November 1918 . He was a lieutenant in the reserve.

In 1919 he became an SPD city councilor in Süchteln, where he was elected 2nd honorary mayor the following year. At the end of 1922 he was scheduled to be the chief of police in Recklinghausen, and on January 15, 1923, he was entrusted with the provisional administration of the post of chief of police in Dortmund. After brief imprisonment by the French occupation forces , he was finally appointed police president in Dortmund on April 1, 1923. In February 1924 he moved to Königsberg as police chief .

After four years of activity, he was transferred to temporary retirement . Initially deputy and acting district administrator in Peine, he was elected district administrator for the Peine district on September 10, 1932. He remained in this position until he retired. After subsequent commercial and scientific activities in the Rhineland, he did military service from 1940. He was major in the reserve. After the war he was entrusted with the management of the police administration in Krefeld. As the head of the police department and councilor for the city of Krefeld, Brandt finally retired on April 30, 1949. As a retired official, he was part-time managing director of the Krefeld Police Committee until 1953. Brandt was a member of the SPD.
