Hans Burger (forest scientist)

Hans Burger (born February 11, 1889 in Bremgarten AG ; † October 31, 1973 in Köniz ) was a Swiss forest scientist .

Life

Burger was born as the son of the farmer Christian and Verena Burger-Müller. From 1908 he studied forestry at the Eidgenössisches Polytechnikum Zürich and obtained a diploma in 1911 and a doctorate in 1921. In 1948 he was named Dr. hc from the University of Munich.

From 1934 to 1955, Burger was the director of the Federal Institute for Forest Research . Between 1935 and 1954 he lectured at the ETH Zurich for nature and homeland conservation, forestry research, wood science and wood use, since 1943 as adjunct professor. From 1948 to 1952 he was President of the International Union of Forestry Research Organizations ( Iufro ).

Burger became an honorary member of the Swiss Forestry Association in 1943, of the Forest Science Society of Finland in 1949, of the Iufro in 1953 and of the Accademia Italiana di Scienze Forestali in 1958.

In 1917 he married Ella Wälty.
