Hans Clemens

Hans Clemens ( July 27, 1890 in Gelsenkirchen - August 25, 1958 in Montrose , Colorado ) was a German-American opera singer ( tenor ) and singing teacher .

Life

Clemens made his debut at the Cologne Opera in 1912. From 1925 to 1929 and 1935 he was a guest at the Covent Garden Opera in London. In 1930 he went to the USA at the Metropolitan Opera New York (inaugural role: “Steuermann” in the Flying Dutchman ). He stayed there until 1938, where he essentially sang tenor buffo parts. He was also a frequent guest at the San Francisco Opera. After the end of his stage career, he worked as a teacher in Los Angeles.

He was married to the opera singer Wanda Achsel , the marriage was separated in 1933.
