Kilian's Church in Oettingshausen

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Kilian in Oettingshausen in Upper Franconia , a district of Bad Rodach in the Coburg district , was consecrated in 1970. It is a listed building .

history

Oettingshausen is one of the oldest parishes in the Coburg region. In the Middle Ages it was separated from the original parish of Heldburg and became the mother parish of Großwalbur , Breitenau , Ottowind , Ahlstadt , Grattstadt , Rottenbach and the eastern part of Elsa . In 1387 the pastor of Oettingshausen was dean of the Coburg district in the third archdeaconate of the Würzburg diocese . During and after the Reformation , the branch communities became independent, with the exception of Ottowind. From 1728 Grattstadt belonged to the parish of Ahlstadt. The first Protestant pastor was Magister Johann Betheuser.

The church was badly destroyed in the Thirty Years War . In 1953 a mass grave from that time was found near the church. It was not rebuilt until the 18th century. From 1637 to 1651 there was no pastor. From 1923 the parish Ahlstadt / Grattstadt was again co-administered by the pastor in Oettingshausen. The parish of Oettingshausen, the smallest in the Coburg deanery , has belonged to the Großwalburer parish since August 1977 .

Originally a fortified church stood walled on a small hill above the center of the village ( 50 ° 21 ′ 8 ″  N , 10 ° 50 ′ 36 ″  E ). It was a choir tower church that was last redesigned in 1750. The church tower, which was essentially Gothic, bore the year 1576 on the west side and was renewed in the middle of the 19th century in the upper part, the nave was extensively restored in 1822.

Between 1966 and 1969 the church was demolished due to its dilapidation. A new building elsewhere, in the parish garden, where a brewery formerly stood, the sole rights of which the parish priest had, was consecrated on October 25, 1970. It was created according to plans by the Schwürbitz architect Herbert Fischer. The lecture cross, the benches and the baroque organ were taken from the old church. A mural by the artist Eitel Klein from Nuremberg decorates the interior. It shows Jesus preaching the Gospel to the people , Paul is called before Damascus , the Franconian Duke Gozbert is baptized by Kilian and a scene from the Lord's Supper from our century.

The first documented organ was probably built in 1744 and replaced by a new one due to its poor condition. This was created in 1790/91 by the Neustadt organ builder Johann Andreas Hofmann for 170 Reichstaler and the old material. The old case was probably reused for the one-manual instrument with its nine registers . In 1822 a thorough cleaning took place, around 1897 a repair of defects and 1966 a restoration at Hoffmann in Ostheim . Hofmann's disposition was greatly changed. Only some of the pipes are still original. In 2002/2003 the organ was renovated for 10,000 euros. The organ case has a narrow substructure and a five-part prospectus with a white gold frame and a veil made of rococo tails , the ears also carved with fruit and wind instruments. There are decorative strips with leaf carvings on the pipe feet, classicist vases above the pointed towers , and on the cornices there are trumpet-blowing angels holding scrolls. A Zimbelstern on the central tower , above a small inscription board with the inscription "GMB 1794".
