Hans Dietrich von Maltzahn

Hans Dietrich von Maltzahn (today often Maltzan ; * 1725 ; † 1757 ) was the Prussian envoy in Saxony from 1750 to 1756. His information led to the beginning of the Seven Years' War .

Life

Hans Dietrich came from the von Maltzahn family and was the first of his family to join the Prussian diplomatic service as an envoy in Dresden at the age of 24 . From 1753 he sent King Friedrich II copies of the secret correspondence between Saxony , Austria and Russia about the formation of a political alliance against Prussia . He had acquired this from the Saxon secret cabinet secretary Friedrich Wilhelm Menzel . This information made Friedrich feel compelled to invade Saxony in 1756 as the beginning of the Seven Years' War.

In 1757 Hans Dietrich von Maltzahn died.
