Jens Immanuelsen

Jens Immanuelsen (born July 1, 1960 ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Siumut ).

Life

Jens Immanuelsen first worked as a warehouse helper for Den Kongelige Grønlandske Handel from 1979 after graduating from school . In 1988 he was promoted to assistant. From 1992 he was senior assistant at KNI .

In 1993 he became politically active for the first time when he was still elected to the council of the municipality of Upernavik for the Atassut and at the same time became 2nd Vice Mayor. In this election, he was the only cross-party candidate in the entire community to receive more than 100 votes. In the local elections in 1997, he was finally the first mayor of the municipality. Also in this election he was the candidate with the most votes in the community. Due to the administrative reform in 2009, the municipality was dissolved and Jess Svane took over the office of mayor for the newly founded Qaasuitsup Kommunia . In 2013 Jens Immanuelsen was elected to the Inatsisartut and re-elected in 2014 . In the 2018 election , he was unable to get a seat in parliament.

In April 2019, however, he was appointed Minister for Fisheries, Hunting and Agriculture in the Kielsen V cabinet as the successor to Nikolaj Jeremiassen , who had resigned following a vote of no confidence . In February 2020, the chairman of the Fisheries Committee, Henrik Fleischer , stated that the committee no longer had confidence in the minister. He accused Jens Immanuelsen of secrecy and a dictatorial style of work. The rest of the members of the Fisheries Committee did not comment on the matter. Henrik Fleischer was then withdrawn from party membership in the Siumut, but after two days pardoned and he withdrew the declaration. At the end of May 2020 the Fisheries Committee announced this time that they no longer had confidence in Jens Immanuelsen. This time it was said that the minister was not cooperating with the committee and that he had threatened the committee. During the ongoing parliamentary session , the Partii Naleraq requested a vote of no confidence, which was rejected by 10 to 8 votes. The opposition voted unanimously against Jens Immanuelsen, while Erik Jensen and Steen Lynge supported the minister despite their membership in the Fisheries Committee. Henrik Fleischer abstained.

On December 3, 2007, he received the Nersornaat in silver for his mayoral work .
