Hans Gerhard Schulz

Hans Gerhard Schulz (born February 2, 1946 in Herten ) is a German sports official and former athlete . From 1993 to 2017 he was chairman of the nationwide Friends of Athletics Association .

Life

Schulz grew up in Herten ( Westphalia ). In the 1960s he began competitive sports in athletic all- around at SpvG Herten . In the years that followed, his focus was on sprints and hurdles. He was trained by Helmut Janz, among others . After a sports injury, he ended his sports career in 1967 and became a referee. His foster father was Franz Buthe-Pieper , who trained him to be a respected starter at an early age.

His first international assignment as a starter took place in 1973 at the European Junior Championships in Duisburg. He was also at 45 German championships, 30 international competitions, 2 European Cups, World Cup 1977, EM Stuttgart, military world championships and the Universiade in Duisburg. At that time he was considered the most famous starter in Dautschland.

In 1977 he also represented the German Athletics Association at the European Referee Congress in Munich with the presentation “The start and its special features”. There was a lively exchange of experiences with the national associations of Switzerland, Belgium, Austria (training of starters 1978), England and the Netherlands.

He conducted 30 courses for starters for the German Athletics Association and various regional associations.

In 1989 he became deputy chairman of the Association's Athletics Committee and member of the Presidium of the Football and Athletics Association of Westphalia (FLVW). From 2005 to 2016 he was Vice President Athletics at the FLVW. In the West German Football and Athletics Association (WDFV) he was chairman of the athletics committee from 2005 to 2016 and also a member of the executive committee. He represented Westphalia in the Association Council of the German Athletics Association from 2005 to 2016.

In 2012 he organized the German athletics championship in Bochum - Wattenscheid and in 2013 the DLV indoor title fights in Dortmund .

After an apprenticeship as a construction fitter and professional activity in the mining industry, evening school and the special examination in 1969 led him to study at the Pedagogical University in Dortmund. In 1972 he passed the 1st and 1973 the 2nd state examination as a teacher. Schulz subsequently worked as a teacher at various types of schools and from 1989 to 2009 as Ltd. Comprehensive school director and headmaster of a comprehensive school in Recklinghausen.

In 1993 Schulz became chairman of the non-profit initiative Friends of Athletics , and from 1982 to 1986 he was second chairman.

He is married and has a son, sports reporter Eike Schulz.
