Hans Hagerup Falbe

Hans Hagerup Falbe (born February 7, 1772 in Copenhagen , † October 17, 1830 in Stockholm ) was a Norwegian composer and politician of Danish origin.

Life

He studied at the University of Copenhagen . In this city he worked from 1801 to 1809 as a lawyer . In 1809 he came to Norway as assessor of the Supreme Court, where he became a Norwegian citizen in 1814 . He was a minister from 1822 until his death . During the years 1810–1820 he had a great influence on the musical life of Christiania (now Oslo ) by working as a conductor , composer and actor .

His music, which is kept in a simple style, reveals influences of the Viennese classic . He was highly regarded by his contemporaries and his music remained in the Norwegian concert repertoire for a long time . He was one of the first composers whose music was printed in Norway. Works received: The night - a musical painting (1805), symphony in D major, funeral cantata for John Collett (1810), Geheime-Overfinanzraaden ( Singspiel , 1825), three string quartets and much more.
