Hans Haldner (* before 1446, † between 1483 and 1490) was an important Munich sculptor and stonemason of the late Gothic .

Life

Hans Haldner ran a sculptor and stonemason workshop together with his brother Matthäus and his son Markus. It is considered the leading workshop in Munich since the middle of the 15th century.

In 1457 he created a new high grave in the Tegernsee Monastery for the monastery donors Adalbert and Otkar, which was placed in the middle of the church. The high grave was demolished during the Baroque era , but the cover plate was placed in a new frame (dated 1690) as a crowning over the entrance portal of the Church of St. Quirin . The cenotaph of Ludwig of Bavaria in the Frauenkirche in Munich is also his work. Inside the windowed case made of polished black limestone is the late Gothic commemorative plate made of red marble for Emperor Ludwig. In 1474 Hans Haldner created a new rood screen in Freising Cathedral . The important Blutenburg Madonna in the Blutenburg Palace Chapel is attributed to the Haldner's workshop by some scientists. He died between 1483 (year of the plague?) And 1490. The workshop was continued by his son and brother.

Franz Sickinger (* before 1470; † after 1503), who worked in Burghausen from 1475 to 1503, is one of his students .
