Hans Heierli

Hans Heierli (born November 13, 1927 in Buchs ; † October 31, 2003 ; resident in Gais ) was a Swiss geologist .

Life

Heierli grew up in Buchs and from 1944 attended the Trogen Cantonal School , from which he graduated with a type C Matura . He studied geology at the ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich , where he received his diploma as a high school teacher for geography and chemistry . In 1955 he received his doctorate with the text Geological investigations in the Albula zone between Crap Alv and Cinuos-chel (Graubünden) at the University of Zurich. From 1958 to 1984 he was a teacher at the Trogen Cantonal School. From 1981 he was part-time and from 1984 full-time conservator at the St. Gallen Nature Museum . He retired in 1993. He led numerous excursions to the Alpstein .

In 1971 the first geological hiking trail in Switzerland he had planned opened on the Hohe Kasten . A rock spike (“Heierli-Nadel”) on the hiking trail is named after him.
