Hans Hermann (born August 17, 1870 in Leipzig , † May 18, 1931 in Berlin ) was a German composer who had committed himself primarily to song compositions, double bass player and teacher.

Life

Hans Hermann studied with Wilhelm Rust , Edmund Kretschmer and Heinrich von Herzogenberg and worked from 1888 to 1893 as a double bass player in various orchestras in Germany. From 1901 to 1907 he worked as a teacher at the Klindworth-Scharwenka Conservatory in Berlin ; after that he lived as a freelance composer in Dresden and from 1927 back in Berlin. Above all, he created songs and chamber music that were sung by important interpreters of his time such as Lilian Sanderson, Lilli Lehmann and Karl Mayer .

The musicologist Hermann Kretzschmar characterized the nature of his compositions as follows: “Hans Hermann's value lies in his talent for drafting, for the closed management of large, broad forms, for clear and imposing grouping, as well as in his own mixture of cheerfulness, happiness with great and passionate Feeling."

He found his final resting place after being reburied in the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf .
