Hans Homberger

Hans Ernst Homberger (born October 31, 1908 in Schaffhausen ; † 1986 ) was a Swiss rower who won a silver and a bronze medal at the 1936 Summer Olympics . In 1955 he took over the management of the International Watch Company in Schaffhausen.

Athletic career

The three brothers Hans Ernst, Alexander and Rudolf Homberger started together for the Zurich rowing club. In 1935 at the European Rowing Championships in Berlin, the Swiss four-man won without a helmsman with Hans Ernst and Alex Homberger, Hermann Betschart and Karl Schmid . In the eighth , the Swiss boat with the three brothers took second place behind Hungary.

On August 14, 1936, the finals of the rowing decisions at the 1936 Olympic Games were held on the Berlin-Grünau regatta course . At 2.30 p.m. the race in a four-man with helmsman started , the German boat won with eight seconds ahead of the Swiss boat with Hermann Betschart, Hans Ernst and Alexander Homberger, Karl Schmid and helmsman Rolf Spring , which in turn won nine seconds ahead of the French on Bronze Square. Professional career

After the death of his father Ernst Jakob Homberger (1869–1955), Homberger was the last private owner to take over the management of the International Watch Company in Schaffhausen . He worked on the further development of the quartz watch . In 1978 the company was sold to VDO Adolf Schindling AG .
