Hans Ingeram, self-portrait with explanation of being the author of this book: “Item of the society servant of the donkey A persefantt / called Hans Ingeram made dyz puoch Inn dem / Jar do man Zalt after xpi (Christi) geburd Mcccclviiij (1459) Jar uf / michaelis (September 29) / Hans Ingeram ”.

Hans Ingeram also Hanns Ingeram (* before 1459 ) was a subordinate Herald (Persevant) and co-author of the Ingeram Codex . The second author is only known as the “Exempla master” and his name has not been passed down.

Ingeram was a sub-herald (since he called himself a "servant") member of the tournament society Gesellschaft im lower Esel , which was divided into the two subgroups Im lower Esel from Main and Im lower Esel from Odenwald and Kraichgau . His main task was probably that of a heraldic king . The centers of society were Mainz , Heidelberg and Frankfurt , where a chapel of the society was located. Hans Ingeram may also have come from this room and stayed there.
