Hans Jütting

Hans Jütting (born September 22, 1909 in Stendal ; † September 22, 1999 there ) was a German manager and founder of the foundation.

Life

In 1930 Jütting emigrated to Canada, where he studied economics at McGill University in Montreal . In 1933 he married the pianist Eugenia Czerny, who comes from a Polish family of artists. Hans Jütting later worked as CFO of the Ford Motor Company .

With the Hans and Eugenia Jütting Foundation established in 1937, the two founders played an important role in promoting music, science and education; The purpose of the foundation is to support the gifted and elite.

From their place of residence in the USA, the couple visited Hans Jüttings' hometown several times during the GDR era. In 1985, the then GDR government agreed to accept a donation for the renovation of the St. Katharinen von Jütting monastery church. In May 1994, the former church ruins were ceremoniously opened as the city's representative music forum in the presence of Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker . In 1995 the Jütting couple were awarded honorary citizenship of the city of Stendal for their commitment . The couple moved from Florida to Stendal in 1996 .

On February 15, 1998, the Jütting Foundation celebrated its 60th anniversary. Jütting died on September 22, 1999, on his 90th birthday, in his hometown.

Foundation, endowment

The Hans and Eugenia Jütting Stendal Foundation annually awards one-time grants to particularly talented German and Polish music students. The Katharinenkirche and the buildings connected to it of the current Altmark Museum will continue to receive support from the foundation. It is thanks to Jütting that the largest city in the Altmark has developed into a meeting place for talented young musicians, and the foundation regularly organizes concerts to which national and international musicians are invited. The donations of the foundation of 8,000 and 5,000 euros respectively are among the most highly endowed scholarships for young musicians in Germany.
