Life

From 1945 Fiedler studied chemistry, physics and mineralogy at the University of Jena and after completing his studies in 1949 worked as an assistant and from 1951 to 1957 as an assistant at the Agricultural-Chemical Institute of the University of Jena. He received his doctorate in 1951 in Jena on the subject of ionic effects in ferments, with particular attention to salivary amylase, and completed his habilitation six years later with the thesis The current state of our knowledge about the influence of natural and synthetic chemical compounds on physical soil properties . He then worked as a lecturer for plant nutrition at the University of Rostock and in 1959 became professor with teaching assignment and in the following year professor with chair for soil science and site studies at the TH Dresden . In addition, he became head of the Soil Science and Site Science department, from 1992 Institute for Soil Science in the Faculty of Forestry, Geosciences and Hydro Sciences at the TU Dresden. In 1995 he was a lecturer in soil science at the University of Halle-Wittenberg .
