Hans Knüsli

Hans Knüsli (born March 8, 1841 , † September 2, 1921 ) was a Swiss politician and railroad industrialist.

Life

Hans Knüsli was born as the son of Hans Knüsli-Unholz , notary, Cantonal Councilor and City Councilor of Winterthur. He grew up with two brothers who both emigrated to America and three sisters. One of his sisters was Ida Sträuli-Knüsli , who co-founded the Winterthur Women's Association .

Knüsli studied in Zurich, where he was a member of the Corps Tigurinia , and became district judge in Winterthur in 1870 , president of the court in 1871 and town clerk in 1874. He later worked as a lawyer. In 1893 he became Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Locomotive and Machine Factory in Winterthur. From 1911 he was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). Knüsli was politically active as a member of the City Council of Winterthur (1880 to 1889), of which he was temporarily president, and of the Cantonal Council .
