Hans Koenigsmann
Hans-Jörg Königsmann (* 1962 or 1963 ; spelling of the surname in the USA also Koenigsmann ) is a German aerospace engineer . Since 2011, he has been Vice President of the American space company SpaceX for Mission Assurance , i.e. for the security of missions. He is also the chief engineer for the rocket launches .
Life
In 1989, Hans Königsmann obtained the academic degree of a graduate engineer for aerospace from the Technical University of Berlin and in 1995 the doctorate for aerospace and production technology from the University of Bremen .
As a young space engineer, Hans Königsmann first worked at the Center for Applied Space Technology and Microgravity (ZARM) at the University of Bremen . There he first worked on the control of the BremSat satellite developed there . Later he took over the technical program management of the project. The satellite was launched into space with the Space Shuttle in 1994 and performed its research tasks there for about a year. After completing the project, Königsmann moved to California to work for Microcosm Inc., a satellite manufacturer. He met Elon Musk during rocket launches in the Mojave Desert .
In 2002, Musk recruited him as the fourth technical employee for his start-up SpaceX. Initially, Königsmann headed the avionics department . Königsmann became part of the launch team for all SpaceX rocket launches, be it the Falcon 1 or the Falcon 9 . From the third flight of the Falcon 1, he became the start chief engineer. In 2011 he was appointed Vice President for Mission Assurance and has been responsible for the security of rocket launches and missions ever since.
Honors
- In 2014, Königsmann was awarded the Distinguished Public Service Medal by NASA .
