Live and act

Kuhn studied from 1924 to 1926 with Ludwig Meidner in Berlin and from 1926 to 1929 in Paris with Bissière . From 1929 to 1935 he lived in Italy, where he met Werner Gilles , whose circle of artists he later remained connected. From 1936 to 1941 he lived in Berlin. From 1937 he was banned from exhibiting. After completing his military service (1941–45) and being a prisoner of war in Baden-Baden, Karl Hofer appointed him to the University of Fine Arts in Berlin , where he worked until 1974. From 1975 he lived alternately in Baden-Baden and Berlin. In 1969 he received the State Prize of the State of Baden-Württemberg . From 1951 to 1968, Hans Kuhn was a board member of the German Association of Artists .

In Günther Wirth's view , from 1950 onwards he "broke away from compositions that were strongly object-related and intensified the tendency towards abstraction, so that at times he came to the non-representational image."
