Hans Liebermann (born March 26, 1876 in Berlin ; † September 11, 1938 there ) was Professor of Organic Chemistry at the TH Berlin , from which he was expelled because of his Jewish origins .

Life

Hans Heinrich Liebermann was one of three sons of Georg Liebermann , one of the brothers of the painter Max Liebermann . From 1908 to 1934 he was an assistant at the organic laboratory of the TH Berlin , where he was also employed as a private lecturer between 1913 and 1934 and later as an associate professor for organic chemistry. He had three sons with his wife, who was not of Jewish origin.

A stumbling block was laid for Hans Liebermann in Berlin, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, because

“After 1933 he was one of the scientists expelled by the Nazis for racist reasons. He could not cope with this humiliation and committed suicide on September 11, 1938. "

Liebermann is buried in the Jewish cemetery Schönhauser Allee in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg.

In 1926 he inherited the villa at Tiergartenstrasse 4 from his father . After the Nazi authorities came to power, the building was "quasi confiscated" and from spring 1940 served as the official headquarters of the "euthanasia" murders known under the code name Aktion T4 - the murder of sick and mentally handicapped people.
