from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Martens (born October 30, 1911 in Kiel ; † June 6, 1970 ibid) was a German athlete who specialized in the high jump .

The 1.89 m tall and 79 kg heavy athlete took part in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin with Gustav Weinkötz and Günther Gehmert . After he had achieved personal best a year earlier with 1.96 m, he was completely out of shape in Berlin. While Gustav Weinkötz and Günther Gehmert had no trouble crossing the qualifying height of 1.85 m, Hans Martens had to end the competition at the starting height of 1.70 m and came in 32nd with several other athletes only the skipped heights, but not the failed attempts. According to today's rules, Hans Martens would have come in 40th and last place, as he was the only one to master the 1.70 m only in the second attempt.

At the national level, he won five runners-up championships (1933, 1934, 1935, 1938 and 1939). Added to this is a third place in 1941.

Hans Martens started for TV Kiel and from 1939 for Marine Kiel .
