Hans Menzel (geologist)

Hans Menzel (born June 5, 1875 in Schönewalde ; † August 24, 1914 near Serres ) was a German geologist and paleontologist.

Life

His father was a pastor in Schönewalde in the Schweinitz district. Menzel was a student of Adolf von Koenen in Göttingen (PhD 1901) and since 1901 at the Prussian Geological State Institute (PGLA). There he became a district geologist for Berlin. He fell as a first lieutenant in the reserve on August 24, 1914 in France.

He dealt with Quaternary geology in Northern Germany.

In August 1912, Hans Menzel was one of the 34 founding members of the Paleontological Society .
