Distracción is located at an altitude of 65 meters about 115 km south of Riohacha and has an average annual temperature of 28 ° C. The community has a total area of ​​232 km². It is bordered by Riohacha to the north, Fonseca to the east and south-east, and San Juan del Cesar to the west and south-west .
