Dibulla is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of La Guajira in Colombia .

geography

Dibulla is located directly on the Caribbean Sea between the capitals of three departments: in the east the municipality borders on Riohacha , in the west on Santa Marta ( Magdalena ) and in the south on Valledupar ( Cesar ). In addition, Dibulla borders on San Juan del Cesar in the southeast .

population

The municipality of Barrancas has 37,854 inhabitants, of which 6054 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality (as of 2019).

history

Dibulla belonged to Riohacha until 1995 and has only been a separate community since then. The slightly larger neighboring town of Mingueo also wanted to receive this status. However, preference was given to Dibulla and Mingueo became a corregimiento of Dibulla.

tourism

Of particular tourist importance is the village and corregimiento Palomino , which is in the territory of the municipality of Dibulla. Known for its beach and good surfing conditions, it is particularly popular with backpackers and nature lovers.
