The municipality of Urumita is located in the Serranía del Perijá , a northern branch of the Andes . The municipality borders in a clockwise direction on Villanueva , Venezuela , La Jagua del Pilar and Valledupar .

history

The place Urumita is of indigenous origin. It was named after the indigenous Cacique Uruma. It was officially founded in 1785 by Juan Bautista Canalete. Urumita has had the status of a municipality since 1972. Before that, it had belonged to Villanueva .
