Hans Moritz Meyer

Hans Moritz Meyer (born September 6, 1910 in Ober Peilau , Reichenbach district , Province of Silesia , † June 23, 1978 in Memmingen ) was a German librarian.

Life

Meyer attended the Johannisgymnasium in Breslau, then he studied German, history, musicology, philosophy and art history also in Breslau. He received his doctorate in 1936 and passed the state examination in 1937. In the same year he volunteered at the State and University Library in Breslau , and in 1938 at the State Library in Berlin. There he passed the library examination in 1939 and became a librarian in 1940.

From 1940 to 1945 Meyer was seconded to the State and University Library in Poznan, where he was deputy director. After the war, he became library councilor and deputy director of the state library in Speyer in 1950, and in 1956 he was also deputy director of the Dortmund city and state library . There he became director in 1958 and chief library director in 1972, which he only remained for two years until 1974. In Dortmund he was able to contribute his ideas to the planning for a new building and in 1958 opened the "House of Libraries", which also housed the Institute for Newspaper Research .

Meyer published the "Westphalian Bibliography" since 1959.
