Hans Peterson

Hans Peterson (* 1922 in Väring ) is a Swedish writer . He mainly wrote books for children and young people, some of which were also translated into German.

Life and works

Hans Peterson grew up in Östergötland . He worked as a factory worker, electrician, forest worker and raftsman before receiving second prize in a children's book competition in 1945. He then became a freelance writer and wrote numerous books. Matthias und das Eichhörnchen was awarded the German Youth Book Prize in 1959 , other books by Peterson were on the shortlist for this prize: Matthias, Martin and Mari (1959), Matthias Has His Big Day (1960), When We Were Snowed In (1961), The blue canary and a lion in the house (1962), Come with me, little Bronx (1963), Jan Jansson - a lucky boy (1972), hunt for Janne (1978) and Anna in front of the door 1990.

Peterson also received the Astrid Lindgren Prize , the Nils Holgersson Plaque, and the Swedish State Prize for Literature.

German translations of his works have been published by Oetinger . A lion in the house , Matthias in danger and Come with me, little Bronx , were published as dtv junior volumes .

Peterson's books are often about children who feel lonely and, because they cannot connect with their peers, develop intense relationships with animals - like Ingvar in A Lion in the House - or inventing fantasy creatures - like Lieselotte in Come With Me, Little Bronx .
