Hans Rössling

Hans Rössling (born December 17, 1927 , † July 6, 2013 in Mannheim ) was a German opera singer ( bass ).

Life

Rössling grew up in Mannheim-Sandhofen, trained as a municipal civil servant and took singing lessons from Heinrich Hölzlin . In 1950 he appeared for the first time in a small role in the Meistersinger von Nürnberg as a guest at the Nationaltheater Mannheim . After participating in the Nuremberg singing competition “Meistersinger Competition” in 1952, he was engaged at the Stuttgart State Opera . In 1953 he moved to the National Theater in Mannheim. During the audition, the director at the time, Hans Schüler , had noted: “Nice guy with a sense of humor, tall, slim, and with increasing maturity an even bigger voice”. He was a member of the National Theater ensemble for almost four decades until he retired in 1990. Herbert Meyer described him in 1979 as "always a reliable support in the second row of basses, occasionally also in supporting roles". After 1990 there were numerous guest appearances in Mannheim, but in 1995 he finally took his final stage farewell. Rössling last lived in Heddesheim . When he died, he left behind his wife and two children.

Honors

In 1988 Rössling was named a Baden-Württemberg Chamber Singer for his artistic merits and his services as a staff representative . In 1991 he became an honorary member of the Mannheim National Theater.
