Hans Sussmann (born June 23, 1897 in Berlin , † April 3, 1985 in Teupitz ) was a German resistance fighter, local politician and local historian.

Life

Hans Sussmann came from a middle-class family. His childhood and youth were shaped by his Jewish mother. At the beginning of the First World War he attended high school and volunteered for the military. His experiences in the war led him to become involved in an anti-militarist association and to be elected to a soldiers' council . After the end of the war, Sussmann completed a commercial apprenticeship and became an independent representative and owner of a specialty shop for soap and cosmetics in Berlin-Neukölln . In 1925 he joined the KPD . In the time of National Socialism he was considered a " half-Jew " according to National Socialist criteria . His business became an important point of contact for exchanging messages in the resistance against National Socialism . Together with his wife Else and Albert Voigts , Elfriede Paul and Walter Küchenmeister, he formed a small group of his own within the resistance circles of the Berlin Red Orchestra , which was in close contact with the artistic circles around Oda Schottmüller and Kurt Schumacher . They illegally produced anti-fascist and anti-war leaflets and had set up their own escape aid connection to Switzerland .

Sussmann escaped the waves of arrests in autumn 1942, but lost all contacts through the arrest of his friends and inevitably ceased his acts of resistance. In order to escape the arrest pressure from the Gestapo , he moved to Teupitz . After the end of the Second World War and the occupation of the city on April 27, 1945 by the Red Army , he assumed the office of mayor until the local elections on September 15, 1946 . Until 1949 he was the district mayor of the southern district of the Teltow district created by SMAD . From 1950 to 1963 he worked as administrative director of the Teupitz mental hospital . During this time, the company's own cultural center, the singer's home , a company kindergarten and municipal sports facilities, including the sports field, a tennis court and a swimming area, were built.

After his retirement he worked as a city chronicler and published among other things the work Teupitz and the Schenkenländchen .
