Hans Schmitt (sculptor)

Hans Schmitt (* 1912 in Frankfurt am Main ; † 1996 in Inning am Ammersee ) was a German sculptor .

Life

The autodidact initially worked as a cowherd, baker, forest worker and community servant. Shortly before the end of the war, he lost his right arm. In 1969 the autodidact created his first sculptures. His materials were rubble collected from rubble, boards and other materials from which he created bizarre human and animal sculptures.

Since 1981 Schmitt lived in Inning am Ammersee in Upper Bavaria .

The uneducated, naive works of the sculptor are assigned to the Sculpture Brute . Many of his works belong to the Buchheim Collection and can be seen in the Museum of Fantasy in Bernried on Lake Starnberg .
