Hans Siegl

Hans Siegl (born September 8, 1944 in Gröbenzell , † June 25, 1978 in Linz , Austria ) was a German motorcycle track racer in the late 1960s and 1970s.

He was the son of the pre-war racing driver Albin Siegl and started his own career in 1966. Just one year later, he started in the international license class and qualified for the finals of the European sand track championship for the first time in 1969. Hans Siegl was a so-called all-rounder in motorcycle track racing. That is, he drove long track races , speedway and also in winter ice speedway races , each very successfully. In 1971 he was third at the German Long Track Championships and also took part in the newly created Long Track World Championship . In 1972 he won the German Long Track Championship and was fourth in the Long Track World Championship. His greatest successes were winning the long track runner-up world championship in 1973 and 1977. Hans Siegl started for the MSC Olching in the Speedway Bundesliga and also competed in the German national speedway team with Egon Müller , Christoph Betzl and Josef Angermüller . Siegl also took part in the world championships in ice speedway, most recently in Assen 1978. Hans Siegl died on June 25, 1978 in a hospital in Linz , Austria , exactly 30 days after a racing accident at a speedway race in Linz when an opponent driving in front of him fell and Siegl could no longer avoid it.
