biography

Youth and job

Hans Verling was born in February 1916 as the son of Franz Verling and his wife Anna (née Amann). He grew up with two brothers and a sister in Vaduz . His father ran a small farm, but was mainly involved in viticulture . Hans Verling went to elementary and secondary school in Vaduz. After finishing school he worked as a postman for the post office in Vaduz. He practiced this profession for more than three decades. From October 1966, Verling worked as a civil servant at the land registry. In 1968 he was appointed deputy land registry clerk by the government and held this post until his retirement on December 1, 1981.

Verling had been married since November 22, 1948 and had four daughters.

Voluntary and athletic career

Active in the Liechtenstein scout movement at a young age, in 1941 he was a member of the committee that was responsible for organizing the National Youth Games on the occasion of the ten-year existence of the movement.

Verling was also an active athlete and sports official. He had been a member of FC Vaduz since it was founded in 1932, played in its team, was a member of the board of directors of FC Vaduz and was president from 1943 to 1946 and from 1951 to 1955. He later became an honorary member of FC Vaduz. From 1955 to 1961 he was President of the Liechtenstein Football Association . He was a member of the Vaduz Veloclub founded in 1929 and, together with Eduard von Falz-Fein , campaigned for the revival of cycling in Liechtenstein from 1939. From 1960 to 1974 he was President of the Princely Liechtenstein Sports Association . In the 1960s he was active in the Skibob Club founded in 1963.

Political career

Verling's father was a founding member of the Progressive Citizens' Party (FBP) and was very active in the party. Accordingly, he himself decided to follow his father's example. From 1948 to 1965 he was a member of the Vaduz municipal council and from 1960 to 1965 he was Deputy Mayor of Vaduz. As president of the press association, he directed the fortunes of the Liechtensteiner Volksblatt .

In 1970 he was elected to the state parliament . There he campaigned for the creation of an incompatibility law that would forbid state officials to be members of the state parliament in the future. In his opinion, this was necessary because the Landtag had control over the state administration and without this law the separation of powers would be endangered. Verling, himself a civil servant, accordingly decided not to run again in 1974 and thus resigned from the state parliament.
