Hans Werner Tobler

Hans Werner Tobler (born August 1, 1941 ; resident in Lutzenberg and Stäfa ) is a Swiss historian and professor emeritus for modern history at the ETH Zurich .

Life

Tobler worked as a research assistant at the University of Mexico City until 1973 . On October 1, 1973, he was appointed to the ETH Zurich, where he initially worked as an associate professor and from October 1, 1979 to 2006 as a full professor of modern history. Research stays took him to Paris, Mexico and Washington, DC

The focus of his academic work is on the recent history of Latin America , the social history of China and Mexico, the history of the revolution , especially questions of the comparative history of the revolution in the 19th and 20th centuries and the history of emigration .

Since 2003 he has been a full member of the Academia Europaea .
