Hans Wunderer (dentist)

Hans Wunderer (born December 12, 1912 in Lienz in East Tyrol ; † November 7, 1994 there ) was an Austrian dentist .

Life

Hans Wunderer received his doctorate universae medicinae from the University of Innsbruck in 1939 and then completed his training as a specialist in dentistry, oral medicine and maxillofacial medicine in Vienna. After the Second World War , Wunderer took over his father's practice in Lienz. From 1946 to 1950 he worked one week a month as an unpaid visiting doctor with Karl Häupl in the dental clinic of the University of Innsbruck . When Häupl was appointed head of the clinic at the Düsseldorf Medical Academy in 1951 , he brought Wunderer to Düsseldorf as head of the orthodontic department in his first year. There he completed his habilitation in 1953. In 1960 he was appointed professor of orthodontics. In 1963 he became a corps bow bearer of Marchia Brünn, then based in Düsseldorf . In 1964 he was offered the chair of dentistry at the University of Innsbruck, which he held until 1978. From 1966 to 1967 Dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Innsbruck, 1970–1976 President of the Association of Tyrolean Dentists in the Austrian Society for Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine, later its honorary chairman. Hans Wunderer was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, 1st Class .

In recognition of his services to Austrian dentistry, oral and maxillofacial medicine, the Association of Tyrolean Dentists awards the "Hans Wunderer Prize" every two years.
