Hans von Tübingen, Crucifixion , 1430

Hans von Tübingen (* around 1400; † around 1462, Wiener Neustadt ) was a Gothic painter who was probably originally from Swabia and then worked in Wiener Neustadt in Austria. His name is known from the signatures on some of his pictures, but there is hardly anything to prove about his curriculum vitae. He probably also worked as an eraser and glass painter.

style

Hans von Tübingen is in the final phase of the soft style in the region around Vienna. His work shows Burgundian-French influences, his lively pictures tell a realistic story with differentiated colors. However, in spite of such realistic reproduction, the figure composition still dominates with Hans von Tübingen, which can also be found in pictures by other painters of his time in Austria.

identification

It was suggested to identify Hans von Tübingen with the master of the St. Lambrecht votive tablet . However, this is not considered safe.

The style of the master of the Andreas Altar , who also worked in Vienna, shows a relationship to the work of Hans von Tübingen , as does the work of the master of the Linz crucifixion . Whether these painters, not known by name, B. were employees of a workshop of Hans von Tübingen , can not be clarified easily. The master of the offerings is assumed to be another student .
