The Hanseatische Brauerei Rostock GmbH is a beer brewery founded in 1878 in the Hanseatic city of Rostock . It belongs to the Radeberger Group in the Oetker Group .

history

Beer was brewed commercially in Rostock since the middle of the 13th century . It also reached other countries - especially Scandinavian countries - via the port and the Hanseatic League . On March 28, 1878, the engineers Friedrich Ohlerich and Georg Mahn bought the Julius Meyersche beer brewery and renamed the company the Mahn & Ohlerich brewery . In the 19th and early 20th centuries it was well known in Mecklenburg as the Mahn & Ohlerich brewery and was able to maintain its position as a leading brewery in Mecklenburg in the following years .

In 1945 the brewery was closed, all the plants were dismantled and transferred to the Soviet Union . However, it was quickly rebuilt. During the GDR times it operated as VEB Rostocker Brauerei and its beer sales reached the pre-war level again. In 1991 the Beck & Co. brewery in Bremen bought the Rostock brewery. In 2003 it was taken over by Brau & Brunnen AG . In 2006 the owner changed again, as the Oetker Group had already bought Brau & Brunnen AG in 2004 and has now transferred it, including the Hanseatic Brewery Rostock, to the already existing, own Radeberger Group .

As a specialty, kosher beer was produced for Israel until the early 2000s . For this purpose, special agreements had to be concluded with the works council because of the employment of women.

Periodically, the brewery focused on its premises a brewery Hoffest out.
