DSR version

The ship series type Hansel or Neptun type 451 is a multi-purpose cargo ship type of the Rostock shipyard "Neptun". Three ships of the series were built for the Deutsche Seereederei and are called the Neptun Type 448 wooden container cargo ship .

history

The series was produced from 1968 to 1972 in 21 units, of which eighteen ships went to Norwegian owners. Three ships were built for the Deutsche Seereederei. The ships are primarily intended for the combined transport of general cargo, containers, heavy cargo, wood, cellulose, paper and bulk cargo.

The first ship and namesake of the series was the Hansel, handed over on December 10, 1968, with its home port of Oslo. The ship with the hull number 451 was later renamed several times and was in service as Megas Alexandros since 1992 . On March 20, 1992 it caught fire about 20 nautical miles south of Crotone and was canceled as a total economic loss from December 23, 1993 in Aliağa .

It is worth mentioning in this connection the fate of the rumba launched on December 31, 1971 . She was the eleventh ship of the series, has been sailing under the name Patricia since 1989 and also came to an end near Crotones, where she stranded on February 4, 1992, whereupon she was given up and deleted from the register in 1994/5.

The last ship was hull number 467 of the series, the Ringfalck , which was commissioned under the Norwegian flag on December 28, 1972 , and which was scrapped from April 26, 2003 after several renaming as Ventura in Aliağa .

The high number of ships of this series that were lost in marine accidents was remarkable. Some ships of the series were scrapped relatively early. Despite the meanwhile old age of the ships, some units of the series are still in service.

technology

The hulls are assembled in sectional construction. The living and working area of the aft deck superstructure is air-conditioned.

The series can be divided into three groups.

The basic design was built in three units, the Hansel , Bruni and Jowood . They were powered by a four-stroke diesel engine with 2206 kW, which acts directly on a controllable pitch propeller. The two long holds, optimized for container transport, have a volume of 5554 m³ grain space and 5413 m³ ball space in the first three ships. They have smooth side walls, continuous beveled high tanks and therefore have little underwater. The cargo holds are locked securely at sea with MacGregor hatch covers. Initially 1343 standards of wood can be transported. The loading gear of the first three ships consists of a 10-tonne deck gantry crane with fold-out booms made in Norway, called Munck-Loader .

Building on the basic design of the first three units, eighteen ships followed, with hulls lengthened by a good seven meters. The propulsion of the following ships was powered by a 2353 kW two-stroke diesel engine of the type 8NZD 72A manufactured under MAN license from the manufacturer VEB Dieselmotorenwerk Rostock , which acts directly on a controllable pitch propeller. The longer ships have 6233 m³ of grain space and 6080 m³ of ball space. From the fourth ship onwards, a total of 122 containers or 1477 standard wood can be transported. The fifteen ships of the long version for Norwegian accounts received a 2 × 8 ton and 2 × 15.5 ton double crane each.

The third variant is represented by the three ships built for the Deutsche Seereederei, the Neuhausen , Radeberg and Klosterfelde . They also belonged to the extended series, but were equipped with yet another loading gear, among other things. The handling equipment of these three ships consists of two 10-ton swing loading booms and one 20-ton and 50-ton swing loading boom from the Velle system. The Radeberg was converted in 1988 by dismantling the loading gear and converting the hatches to a full container ship for the England service with the following basic data: 3089 GRT, 5272 tdw, at 6.39 m draft. The ships built for the DSR have a machine variant of the type 8NZD 72A-1 that can be controlled from the bridge.
