Charles Clerc

Charles Clerc (born May 1943 in Freiburg im Üechtland ) is a Swiss journalist and television presenter .

Life

Clerc graduated from the University of Freiburg with a diploma for secondary teachers. He first worked for the Freiburger Nachrichten and from 1967 to 1970 volunteer for Swiss television . He later became an editor at Radio DRS , where he worked for ten years. The radio show Personally , which he co-founded , is still broadcast today.

In 1987, Clerc became the presenter of the Swiss television daily news. On February 3, 1987, he received international attention when he slipped a condom over his finger during the main edition of the show . He did this to educate people about AIDS , as the Federal Office of Public Health had recently started the “Stop Aids” campaign. Clerc ended his daily news moderation with a curious message, which he introduced with the words «And finally this ...». On January 28, 2004, he hosted his last edition of the Tagesschau. His successor is Franz Fischlin .

Today Clerc is the ambassador of the SBS Swiss Library for the blind, visually impaired and print impaired . On September 22nd, 2005, he presented the first DAISY audio book that went on sale in Europe in Zurich .

In August 2010, Clerc played the main role of Carnifex in the Anna Carnifex Festival .
