Hansjakob Mattern

Hansjakob Mattern (born November 20, 1911 in Heidelberg ; † May 21, 2001 there ) was a German general practitioner and university professor.

Live and act

Born in Heidelberg in 1911, Hansjakob Mattern completed his medical studies in 1938 and was appointed doctor in 1939. In 1942 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD.

In 1947 he established himself as a general practitioner in his native Heidelberg. In addition, he was active in medical self-administration, including as a board member of the District Medical Association of North Baden and the State Medical Association of Baden-Württemberg.

As one of the first doctors in Germany, Mattern was given a teaching position in general medicine . In recognition of his services to this subject, the state government of Baden-Württemberg appointed Hansjakob Mattern as honorary professor at the suggestion of the Heidelberg Medical Faculty in 1976.

In 1984 Hansjakob Mattern was honored with the Paracelsus Medal , the highest distinction of the German medical profession.
