Harald Graef

Harald Graef (born April 4, 1942 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German lawyer and judge .

Life

Graef is the son of a concert pianist and a violin professor . After studying law and passing the state exams, he became a judge at the Frankfurt am Main District Court in 1973, at the Frankfurt am Main Regional Court in 1974 , and then at the Frankfurt am Main Administrative Court in 1979 . In 1981 he was appointed judge at the Kassel Administrative Court .

Graef was commissioned by the Hessian Minister of Justice Karl-Heinz Koch to support the restructuring of the Thuringian legal system. In 1990, while still in the GDR , he was appointed chief judge at the Erfurt District Court by the Ministry of Justice of the German Democratic Republic . In October 1990, when the district court was converted to the district court of Erfurt , he was appointed chairman of the senate for administrative matters. At the end of 1990, Graef was commissioned to check the political judgments of the GDR judiciary for their compatibility with the Basic Law . He overturned more than 500 judgments in the former Erfurt district . In 1992 Greaf moved from the Hessian to the Thuringian judicial service and in 1993 he was appointed Vice President of the Thuringian Higher Administrative Court. He also taught building law at the University of Jena .

Graef became a member of the Thuringian Constitutional Court in 2000 , President of the Court in 2005, before retiring in 2010 due to old age. In 2007 he retired as Vice President of the Higher Administrative Court.
