Harald Socher (born January 28, 1947 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper who played between 1968 and 1983 in the GDR league for BSG Kernkraftwerk Greifswald .

Athletic career

Before Harald Socher rose to the GDR league with the BSG unit Greifswald in 1968 , he had played in the third-rate district league with the company sports club (BSG) since 1966 . For the GDR league season 1968/69, in which the BSG competed under the new name Kernkraftwerk Nord, Socher was only intended as goalkeeper number three in the team. Only when the 1st and 2nd goalkeeper failed after the 12th league match day, Socher was used in the remaining 18 match days. For the 1969/70 season he was nominated as the first goalkeeper, but he was called up only four times in the 30 league games in the first half of the season and in only ten point games in the second half. After Socher had been used in five league games by October 1970, he was drafted for 18 months for military service in the National People's Army . After his dismissal he returned to the BSG nuclear power plant and was used there in twelve GDR league games in the 1972/73 season, where he was again absent for several weeks in the first half of the season. The 1973/74 season turned out to be his personally most successful season for Socher, because he was only missing on the last of the 22 game days. Until 1980, Socher remained the goalkeeper of Greifswald, but except for 1977/78 (only two games suspended) his obligatory longer breaks. After the 1980/81 season, the BSG KKW had to relegate from the GDR league, Socher was now only a substitute goalkeeper with only two league appearances. When the Greifswald rose again after a year in the GDR league, Socher was still part of the team with eight league appearances in 1982/83. When the nuclear power plant immediately relegated, the 36-year-old's career in the higher class was over, where he had played 178 GDR league games within thirteen seasons.

further activities

During his first years at BSG Kernkraftwerk Greifswald, Socher studied pedagogy with the subjects Russian and physical education at Greifswald's Ernst Moritz Arndt University . When the BSG KKW played again in the GDR league in 1985/86 after they rose again, Socher trained the team during the first half of the season. From 1985 to 1990 he worked at the carrier operating the ESR, the Greifswald nuclear power plant , as head of sport.
