Karl August Wittich (born June 11, 1789 in Kaukehmen , † December 6, 1860 in Bonn ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Origin and family

Karl August was the son of the preacher born in Heydekrug in Kaukehmen Hermann Christian David Wittich (1751–1824) and Charlotte Katharina, née. Rehsa (1759-1840). In Heydekrug, the postman Johann Friedrich Wittich had the Justina Barbara, born in 1741 . Langanke (1714–1767), who was later married to Joachim Stengel. The Wittich family was also known earlier in what was later to become the Heydekrug district . The pastor Wilhelm Wittich , who came from Königsberg , moved from Windenburg to Kinten in 1709 , as the parish successor to the Church of Windenburg, which perished in the Curonian Lagoon , where he died in 1718.

Karl August Wittich married Friederike Philippine Storch (1809–1864), daughter of the priest in Gödenroth Georg Heinrich Ludwig Storch in Koblenz in 1832 .

Career

Wittich attended from 1801 to 1806 the school in Tilsit and from 1806 to 1808, the University of Königsberg to Kameralistik and theology study. He began his career in the Prussian Army in 1809 as a gunner in the East Prussian Artillery Brigade, and in 1810 he advanced to Portepeef Ensign and Second Lieutenant , but retired from active service in 1812. He then went on foot to Italy with his brother Friedrich Wilhelm and stayed in the Kingdom of Naples "with the highest permission" until 1814 . During this time, the brother wrote a small work entitled "Some letters on the piracy of the barbares ".

In 1815 he was re-employed as prime lieutenant in the 1st artillery brigade at Mainz fortress and took part in the wars of liberation , especially the siege of Longwy . In 1816 he was promoted to captain and company commander in the 7th Artillery Brigade. From 1824 he was a member of the Artillery Examination Commission and in 1825 also adjutant of the 3rd Artillery Brigade. As an artillery officer from the square , he served in Cologne in 1827 and was promoted to major in 1830 . From 1831 he was department commander in the 8th artillery brigade, in 1840 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and in 1842 with the rank of brigadier he became director of the United Artillery and Engineering School . At the same time, he was given the role of President of the General Management of the Fire Department Laboratory in Spandau . He was also a member of the examination committee for prime lieutenants of the artillery. Wittich became assessor of the upper military examination commission in 1842 , received the Red Eagle Order IV class and his promotion to colonel in 1843 .

Wittich was in 1852 the Red Eagle awarded II. Class with oak leaves and was with the character as a major general with board adopted .
