Kintai ( German Kinten ) is a town (Miestelis) in the Klaipėda district of the Republic of Lithuania . The place is the center of the administrative district (Seniūnija) Kintai and belongs to the Rajongemeinde Šilutė .
location
Kintai is located in the southwest of Lithuania , in the former Prussian Lithuania , on the Curonian Lagoon about 15 km northwest of the township seat of Šilutė . Roads from Šilutė, Ventė and Priekulė lead to Kintai .
history
In 1874 Kinten (apparently) became the seat of an administrative district in the Heydekrug district .
After its incorporation into the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic , Kintai was the seat of a municipality (lit. valsčius) until 1950 and was the seat of a district (lit. apylinkė) from 1950 to 1988. From 1988 to 1995 the place belonged to the Saugos district . Since 1995, Kintai has been the seat of an administrative district. As such, the place got a coat of arms in 2011.

The former Evangelical Lutheran Church of Kintai, a plastered brick building without a tower built in 1705, was handed over to the Catholic community in 1990. The Evangelical Lutheran congregation has been using its rectory as a church since then.

The Kintų seniūnija, which belongs to the Rajong municipality of Šilutė , has existed since 1995 . In addition to the town of Kintai, 24 villages with a total of 1,757 inhabitants on an area of 155.5 km² are united in the administrative district (as of 2011).
