Harald Spehl

Harald Spehl (born December 31, 1940 in Hohen Neuendorf on the northern city limits of Berlin , Reinickendorf district ) is a German economist and professor emeritus at Trier University.

He completed his studies in economics in Münster, Berlin and Rosario, received his doctorate in 1970 at the University of Münster and in 1973 received his first professorship in the field of "spatial planning" at the University of Dortmund.

As early as 1975, he moved to the professorship for economics , especially urban and regional economics , at the University of Trier in Rhineland-Palatinate . There Spehl was involved in the reorganization of Faculty IV (economics and social sciences, mathematics, computer science, business informatics). He headed the Senate Building Commission during the planning and construction phase of the new university location and was heavily involved in the design of the university library, the C building and the cafeteria. The professor's teaching and research focus is on concepts and success monitoring of regional policy (theory and evaluation of regional policy), ecological economics / questions of sustainable development (ecological economics) and cooperation and coordination in business and administration (cooperation and coordination in business) and administration).

He is a full member of the Academy for Spatial Research and Regional Planning, a member of the Association for Ecological Economy , a member of the Society for Regional Research , a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Institute for Regional Development and Structural Planning, a board member of the Institute for Contemporary Social Issues in Stuttgart and since 1995 chairman of the Trier Working Group for Environmental, regional and structural research. In 2007, Harald Spehl was relieved of his duties as professor of economics. He will hold his farewell lecture ("Regional Development - What is it actually?") On February 9, 2007.
