Harald change (* 24 October 1951 in Kleinmachnow ) is a German singer-songwriter , architect and former actor of the DEFA .

Childhood and youth

In 1951, Wandel was born as the son of a financial scientist and a secretary in Kleinmachnow near Berlin. He spent his school days there from 1958 to 1966. When he was around 15, Wandel wrote his first compositions and lyrics; from then on he learned to play the guitar autodidactically and sang in school bands. After 8th grade he had to leave school, began an apprenticeship as a bricklayer and, from 1968 to 1971, did an apprenticeship as a concrete worker with a high school diploma at the company vocational school of the VEB Bau- und Montagekombinat Ost in Potsdam. By 1975 he completed a degree in architecture at the Weimar University of Architecture and Construction , now the Bauhaus University, from which he graduated. In the same year he moved to Neubrandenburg.

Studies and acting

Even during his apprenticeship, Wandel took part in the cabaret group at his vocational school in Potsdam, from where he was invited to DEFA rehearsal recordings in 1968 and got a leading role there. He then starred in a total of 16 films (among others with the directors Ingrid Reschke , Roland Oehme , Herrmann Zschoche , Manfred Mosblech and Bernhard Stephan ), including several leading roles. His work was not limited to any genre; In comedies, thrillers, children's films and even in a science fiction atypical for the GDR era ( Eolomea ), he was seen on the big screen. Because of the architecture profession, Wandel turned away from acting in the late 1970s.

Songwriting

In 1982, Wandel broke off his career as an architect and party secretary and became an assistant in the House of Culture and Education in Neubrandenburg. He worked in various series of songwriters, completed training at the committee for entertainment arts and received a two-year sponsorship contract in 1983. Furthermore, Wandel took part in the GDR Chansontages in 1981, 1983 and 1987. A striking feature of his music are socially critical and humorous texts. He worked as an assistant director at the Friedrich-Wolf-Theater (today Landestheater Neustrelitz ), then until 1990 as a freelance songwriter and lyricist.

In 1989, Wandel quickly organized the concert “Step out of the shadows - Artists for Progress”, in which artist formations from all over the GDR took part. During his time as a singer-songwriter, there were several spying and surveillance by the Ministry of State Security, which thought it recognized "hostile negative effects" and tried to prevent his performances.

Harald Wandel lives as a songwriter and architect in Neubrandenburg.
