Philip, the boy is a children's film of the DEFA of Herrmann Zschoche from the year 1976 .

action

Philipp is too small for his age and is therefore often ridiculed by his comrades when, for example, he hardly reaches the blackboard at school. He lives alone with his father, who works as a train driver for the railway. Grandma Hundertgramm takes care of both of them. While walking through the city with his father, he received a flute from him. When he loses it, he tells the music dealer his mishap and receives a new one from him - a wonder flute. With a certain melody he can make objects and living beings bigger or smaller, but not himself. But if he diligently learns to make music on the flute, he can hope for another miracle.

In the little town he causes some confusion when he turns the cat into a lion and the school bell is very small. The other well-intentioned deeds, such as increasing the size of the fruit on the apple tree or reducing the size of a furniture van, do not bring him any recognition. But one day he will reap it with his music. Playing his flute extensively has made him a little master. Enchanted, the people stop in the market square and listen to his music. Due to this success, all previous changes that were made by the miracle flute will be reversed.

production

Philipp the little one was filmed by the artistic work group "Johannisthal" on ORWO -Color in Arnstadt and had on the occasion of the VI. criticism

HU writes in the Neue Zeit : Reality and fantasy naturally merge. No break in between, no separation from one another: real life and the wonderful form an organic unit. And the moral of Philip's story is conveyed without any didactic superficiality, and develops very unobtrusively from the plot. In the close observation of a friendly small-town milieu, there is also some amiable irony when the eye falls on the world of adults. Horst Knietzsch writes in Neues Deutschland : As you can hear, this film has met with a good, even enthusiastic response from its viewers. I can understand that, because DEFA's new children's film is a pleasure to see. The lexicon of international films wrote that this is an excellent children's film that fulfills children's demands with a lot of imagination and fun.
