Harduin Bießle

Harduin Bießle (born November 23, 1902 in Gotzing ; † October 3, 1985 ) was the first abbot of Königsmünster Abbey in Meschede . Together with other friars he was sent to Meschede by the Archabbey of St. Ottilien in 1929 to found a monastery.

In December 1956 he was elected abbot. He gave up his office on August 15, 1976 and then worked for a few years as a novice master . His successor as abbot was Stephan Schröer . Abbot Harduin died after heart surgery.

In 1967 Harduin Bießle was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Eugène Cardinal Tisserant and invested in Münster on April 29, 1967 by Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy .

The city of Meschede granted him honorary citizenship on November 23, 1972 . He is the namesake of the Abbot Harduin Bießle Foundation at the Benedictine high school in Meschede.
