Harlesiel Harbor
The Harlesieler Hafen is the port of Harlesiel , a district of the East Frisian city of Wittmund in Lower Saxony .
history
The port was built between 1953 and 1956 and forms the temporary completion of a centuries-old dike in Harle Bay . The Sielhafen in Carolinensiel lost its importance. The fishermen were the first to move to Harlesiel. Due to the Harlesiel pumping station , an outer and inner harbor was created there.
Outer harbor
The outer harbor is protected to the west and east by a pier. It is the only port to supply the island of Wangerooge . From here the ferry goes to the East Frisian island. The harbor is also used by excursion boats. Until 1989 it was connected to the rail network of the Federal Railroad by the Jever – Harle line. It is also the base of the domestic cutter fleet.
Inland port
The inland port is of little economic importance. When a weekend settlement was built in the late 1960s, many Harlesiel residents who had moved in used the inland port as a marina . The inland port is also the entrance to the museum harbor in Carolinensiel .
