Harman's Cross is a small village on the Isle of Purbeck in the county of Dorset , in southern England .

location

Harman's Cross is on the main A351 road from Lytchett Minster via Wareham to Swanage . The village is about 3 kilometers southeast of Corfe Castle , about 5 kilometers directly west of Swanage and about 12 km southwest of the large towns of Poole and Bournemouth . The River Corfe rises north of Harman's Cross.

The village

Harman's Cross is usually listed as a village, but it is a village without the usual church and public house. There is a hidden chapel, however. This chapel was created by the founder and owner of the local Foley's garage. There are 190 houses in Harman's Cross and the village has about 350 residents.

The village is within the civil parish Worth Matravers , but at a considerable distance from the village of Worth Matravers. The parish church, St. Nicholas of Myra , is in Worth Matravers and is one of the oldest churches in Dorset. The parish is in the South Dorset constituency of the House of Commons and the South West England constituency of the European Parliament.

Harman's Cross is the location of a station on the Swanage Railway , a historic steam-powered railway. The railway connects the tourist centers of Corfe Castle and Swanage. Harman's Cross' train station was built in 1989. The station building stands on one platform and just a shelter with a garden on the other. All train stations on the Swanage Railway have very well-tended gardens. There is a park and ride north of Corfe Castle.

The entrepreneurial villagers have secured a grant from the Lottery Fund Big Lottery Fund (BIG) and were thus able to secure the construction of a new Village Hall with municipal funds. In July 2010 the construction work was completed and the new hall opened.

There are no shops in Harman's Cross. Foley's garage has an auto repair shop and kiosk with an intrigued post office.
