The folk dance group Harnam (Polish: Zespół Tańca Ludowego Harnam ) is one of the oldest Polish folk dance groups. Its founder was Jadwiga Hryniewiecka. Its headquarters are on the premises of the White Factory Complex in Łódź .

history

In 1947 the Harnam folk dance group was formed in the Szymon Harnam textile factory No. 8 in Łódź. Jadwiga Hryniewiecka was the artistic director until 1978. After that, her students Sławomir Mazurkiewicz (1979–1990) and Maria Kryńska (1990–2008) were the artistic directors. Maria Kryńska and Krzysztof Sitkowski founded a therapeutic dance school there in 1994 for children and adolescents with Down syndrome , which existed until 2008. In 2011, Joanna Formańska became the group's manager. In 2012 the dancer and educator Krzysztof Sitkowski became the artistic director of the group. In 2012, when the Harnam folk dance group celebrated their 65th anniversary, they and Sitkowski were awarded the Gloria Artis Silver Medal for Cultural Merit .

repertoire

The repertoire consists of Polish folk dances and small forms . In the case of the dances, both the characters and the basic steps of folk dances have been preserved. The group combines folk music with new music.
